Storage systems

1. Chemical Engineering - NCE, Nanomaterials, Catalysis, Electrochemistry

* Development of low temperature fuel cell catalysts supported on nanostructured carbons (mono and bi-metallic catalysts);

* Fabrication of membrane-electrode assemblies (cell cores) for PEM fuel cells from component parts (catalysts and membranes);

* Assembly of complete cells from steel bipolar plates;

* Instrumented test benches for the electrochemical characterization of PEM fuel cell single cells;

* Characterization of PEM fuel cell stacks (maximum electrical power of 10 kW) on instrumented test bench, mainly for domestic use;

2. Montefiore

* Transmission network: Feasibility study of a global-grid, i.e. the capture of abundant renewable resources far from the consumption centers, their integration in the markets, networks, and the corresponding regulations (in particular through the use of hydrogen as a vector allowing the integration of renewable resources).

* Storage systems in the broad sense (stationary batteries, hydrogen, electric vehicles, etc.).

* Bench of efuels synthesis from CO2 - H2 - in progress;

* Alkaline electrolyser 6.6 kW - already available;

* Study and development of a carbon-neutral kerosene production line with UR Montéfiore

4.GREEnMat

* Photocatalytic reduction ofCO2 using hydrogen produced by photoelectrolysis: Research will focus on the development of a material (= photocatalyst) with a large specific surface area, which is non-toxic, abundant, inexpensive and highly stable.

Aerospace & Mechanical | Modeling-Simulation & Digital Engineering:

* Development and exploitation of the most advanced design, optimization and simulation techniques for the study and design of electrochemical storage and conversion systems (batteries and fuel cells) as well as propulsion systems using these storage systems.

* Use of optimization to select components and architectures of electric, hybrid electric or hydraulic drive trains, with batteries or fuel cells on the basis of usage and performance criteria and environmental impact (research by J. Nzisabira, COST projects 542 (High Voltage SuperCapacitors), MP1004 (Hybrid Energy Storages)).
