Initially virtual, simulation is now developed through physical tools that allow the reproduction of elements or complex events. Widely used in industrial environments, simulation is now used in the field of training and research. At the University of Liege, its contribution to learning has been the subject of numerous studies that demonstrate the interest of learning by "doing" in a contextualized "simulated" situation for the acquisition of certain skills.

or a long time, it was thought that the more the simulator physically resembled the reference situation, the more one could hope for a transfer of learning to the reference situation. Research has not confirmed this fact: more than the fidelity of the simulator, it is the fidelity of the simulation scenario mobilizing the skills at stake in the reference situation that must be taken care of to facilitate the transfer of learning
Simulation is also a place of exchange between trainers and learners which contributes to the improvement of knowledge and meta-knowledge thanks to the debriefing generally organized at the end of the session. Studies show the importance of debriefing in the acquisition of skills and the usefulness of training trainers to conduct debriefings according to the learning objectives, the audience and the dynamics of the simulated situation
This page aims to illustrate the richness of simulation activities within ULiège. It will be completed as we go along, with the objective of setting up an interactive "virtual library" hosting platform for the simulation scenarios identified and an exchange of good practices.
